Let’s be honest: everyone has lied about how much they floss their teeth. But did you know that food can get trapped between your teeth, leading to cavities, hot and cold sensitivity, and even gingivitis? Thankfully, there are some ways to floss your teeth like the pros!
1. Using Waterpik
Waterpik is the latest in flossing technology. It’s easy to use and incredibly efficient. Waterpik sends a stream of pressurized water between your teeth to loosen stuck food and remove any plaque. It’s incredibly easy to use and much less frustrating than wrangling string.
2. Using Airfloss
Airfloss is similar to Waterpik but is a little less messy to use. Airfloss shoots a stream of air with suspended drops of water between your teeth. It uses only about a teaspoon of water every time you use it, and it is a lot easier to store and transport. The only downside is it’s not as efficient as Waterpik.
3. With Interdental Flossers
Interdental flossers sound more intense than they actually are, we promise. These are small, brush-like flossing implements that go between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. They are specially made to form around the spaces between your teeth, so you can be sure you’re getting every bit of plaque out when you floss your teeth. They are also useful for people who have braces or other dental fixtures, as they can reach behind appliances to help keep your mouth clean.
4. Pick Up Some Flavored Floss
If we’re being honest, the waxy texture of unflavored floss is less than appealing. That’s why flavored floss exists. With flavors ranging from mint and coconut to fruit flavored and cinnamon flavored dental floss, you’re sure to find a floss that works best for you. They are also a great way to get kids excited about flossing their teeth, because who doesn’t love bubblegum flavored dental floss? Plus, they can leave your breath smelling fresher, which is a bonus for both you and everyone you meet.
5. There’s an App for That
If you tend to find yourself forgetting to floss your teeth, you can get an app on your phone to help to keep track of your dental hygiene habits. Dental apps like Productivity, Strides: Habit Tracker, Habits, and Coach.me can all help you get a head start on healthy habits, and will help make sure your oral health doesn’t fall by the wayside of your busy life.
6. Set a Reminder
If you’re not a fan of apps, you can always set a simple reminder on your phone to go off twice a day. This will help you remember to floss your teeth and you may even find yourself getting into the habit of flossing even without the reminder. You can also use this to keep track of other parts of your dental hygiene routine, like brushing for the right amount of time or remembering to use mouthwash after you’re done.
